Graduating with honors in Biology from the University of Pisa in 2001, I began my research career in the same year at the National Research Council of Italy (CNR). In 2011, I obtained a permanent position Researcher, and in 2023 as Senior Researcher.

Over the years, I have gained solid experience in the scientific field, contributing to the development of national and international research projects, with a particular focus on environmental sustainability and the application of Nature-based Solutions (NbS).

My main research activities focus on the remediation of degraded and contaminated soils, as well as on the valorization and recycling of organic waste — including sediments, sludge, green waste, agri-food by-products, and municipal organic waste — through the application of various biological technologies (NbS), such as phytoremediation, landfarming, composting/vermicomposting, and anaerobic digestion. The goal is to develop innovative, sustainable, and cost-effective fertilizers, supporting the transition toward a circular economy model.

In parallel, I am involved in assessing the effectiveness of urban green infrastructures as NbS for improving soil health and air quality. This research includes the validation of specific integrated soil–plant–air indicators, such as soil enzyme activities and the analysis of stable carbon and nitrogen isotopes, which are useful for monitoring ecological processes and evaluating the environmental performance of these systems
