Wasif is an ecophysiologist/ecologist, he is currently working in CNR lead project ” Varietal selection and biostimulant use in olive growing to face climate change”.
His work is mainly focused on use of bio-stimulants to enhance fruit growth and ecological resilience in olive cultivars in Italy. He is also working on use of dendro-isotopic approaches to understand climate variability impacts on various plant species. He had been working on Eco-physiological profiling of forest tree species through IoT systems (Tree talkers) and also on monitoring BVOCs through ext generation plant monitoring sensors (Project MOSSA) in boreal forests of Italy, a collaboration between University of Tuscia, Viterbo & CNR IIA, Rome. He obtained his PHD title (33rd cycle) fro University of Tuscia, Viterbo, DIBAF Department, during this programme, he constructed/tested new technologies to use a plant monitoring system (Tree Talkers) to monitor sap flow, xylem moisture, radial growth, foliar transmitted light components, tree stability and leaf area growth in different tree species across different seasons. This work was done to better understand climate variability impacts on tree physiology in different types of vegetations (forests, plantations).
His masters thesis (LM73-SFA-LM) was focused on phytoremediation and ecophysiology. He studied and analyzed contaminated sludge treated with plants and biochar in mesocosm conditions.
He has also worked on biodiversity and ornithology (M.Phil. in Wildlife Management), analyzing nesting use of plant species by avifauna in selected forest areas of Pakistan.
