MORI EMILIANO

Position: PRIMO RICERCATORE

Type: T.I.

Phone: 055-5225911

Location: Sesto Fiorentino (FI)

Research Lines: Biodiversity, Conservation

I graduated in 2009 in Biodiversity and Evolution at the University of Pisa, with a MSc thesis on the genetic structure and phylogeography of the black francolin, with full marks and honours. During my MSc internship, I developed a remarkable interest for conservation biology, in particular for biological invasions. While attending the Master in Conservation of Animal Biodiversity at the “La Sapienza” University of Rome, I worked on the alien species in a wetland of Central Italy. At the same time, I won a PhD position in Evolutionary Biology at the University of Siena, on the spatial ecology of the crested porcupine. During the three years of Ph.D., I carried out several research projects on populations of parakeets in Italy, on the impact of domestic cats on native wildlife, and in general on impacts of introduced species, including domestic ones. From late 2013 to 2016, I won a research fellowship at the University of Turin, where I have been involved in projects on grey squirrel eradication and coypu control. In addition, I have been a member of the Management Committee of the COST “ParrotNet” Action since 2013. In this context, I have also participated in some researches involving parasites of alien parrots in Europe and the potential for spillback and spillover with native species. I won a STSM scholarship at the Natural History Museum of London to learn how to identify parasites. In 2017, I worked on a project on alien Siberian chipmunks in Italy funded by the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, also dealing with potential spillback and spillover processes with native rodents and humans (e.g. Lyme disease). In 2018-2020, I worked on the management of wild boar, with a scholarship from the University of Siena. In 2020, I won a permanent position at the CNR-IRET in Sesto Fiorentino, and I am a Senior Researcher since 2023. Since 2021, I work on the ecology of Eurasian beavers in Italy, as well as on urban fauna adaptations, on firefly and grasshopper taxonomy, and on biological invasions.
