Pollution and decontamination of soil and other environmental matrices

The laboratory studies soils contaminated by various sources (industrial, mining, urban, agricultural, etc.). It investigates the presence, mobility, transformation, bioaccumulation, and toxicity of contaminants to evaluate their reduction and environmental impact. Additionally, the laboratory develops sustainable methodologies to reduce or contain contamination and restore matrices degraded by pollutants such as heavy metals, metalloids, organic molecules, and emerging contaminants (nanoparticles, nano/microplastics, rare earth elements). It employs specific plant species and soil additives to address contamination through site-specific tests and scale-up approaches to assess the feasibility of decontamination strategies.
