The research activities concern:
- valorization of agro-industrial residues, poorly or not at all used, through the accomplishment of eco-friendly processes for the production of bioactive molecules; in particular, polyphenols;
- production of exopolysaccharides and carotenoids from extremophilic microorganisms;
- study of the applicative properties of the bioactive molecules in sectors such as the environmental, cosmetic, food and pharmaceutical.
To carry out the activities, the following instruments are used: high-temperature incubator for growing extremophiles, ultrasound device with probes of different sizes for the extraction of bioactive molecules, HPLC for qualitative and quantitative analyses of the bioactive molecules produced.
Relevant instrumentations
- High-temperature incubator
- HPLC – DAD/PAD system
- Sonicator Ultrasounds Pulse
